What catsimatidis.com records when you visit, and what it does not.

Statistics

The site counts its visits with PostHog, an analytics service that keeps the figures in the United States. Each page you open sends PostHog a brief record: the time, the page’s address and title, and the page or site that led to it; the browser, operating system and kind of device you use, as your browser describes them; the size of your screen and window; your browser’s language and time zone; and, when you leave, how long the page was open. A click on a link to another site sends that link’s address too. Each record also carries the version and settings of PostHog’s software, and random numbers that label the record and tie it to the page it came from; your browser forgets them when the page closes.

The statistics are anonymous. The site never asks who you are and keeps nothing on your device to recognise you. To count each day’s visitors, PostHog’s servers combine your IP address, your browser’s details and the site’s address with a random value that is replaced every day and then deleted, and turn them into a code that cannot be traced back to any of them. Within a day, the code tells PostHog how many different people visited and which pages each visit included. Because it changes every day, the statistics cannot connect one day’s visit to the next.

PostHog uses your IP address only to make that code and then removes it: it is not stored, and it is not used to work out where you are. There are no session recordings or heatmaps, and the statistics are never used for advertising or sold. PostHog’s privacy policy, on another site explains how it handles data.

Cookies

The site sets no cookies and leaves nothing in your browser’s local or session storage.

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, the site does not load its statistics, and nothing is sent to PostHog. Nothing is sent with JavaScript switched off, either.

Forms and accounts

There are no forms, accounts, comments or newsletters. The site never asks for your name, your email address or anything else about you.

Hosting

Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, it records the requests it serves: the address asked for, the time, your IP address and the city and country Vercel infers from it, and your browser’s details. It uses them to run and protect its service. Vercel’s privacy notice, on another site explains how it handles them.

Other sites

Everything the site shows, from its type to its photographs, comes from the site itself, and its statistics pass through the site’s own address on their way to PostHog, so your browser contacts no other website. Its links to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, the book’s retailers, Red Apple Group, The Cats Roundtable and the charities lead to sites with their own privacy policies, which this page does not cover.

Children

The site is for a general audience and is not directed at children. It asks no one for personal information, and its statistics identify no one.

Changes

If what the site records changes, this page will change with it, and the date at the top will say when.
