About John Prato
Ambassador John Prato, Canada recently returned to the banking industry and now serves as the Deputy Chairman of one of the largest banks in the United States. Up until July of 2016, he has been the Consul General of Canada in New York since March 2011. Canada and New York share 17 international crossings and 450 border miles, across which $60 billion in goods cross each year; $40 billion just on the Peace Bridge at Buffalo. The U.S. imports more oil from Canada than Saudi Arabia or all of the OPEC countries combined. As Consul General, Ambassador Prato promoted efforts to improve border security while making legitimate crossings easier, as well as cooperative efforts on environmental matters involving the Great Lakes, which all have ties to economic development and trade.
