About John Cornyn

United States Senator John Cornyn, is the Republican Senator from Texas. As a lawyer, Senator Cornyn first served as Bexar County district court judge 1984-1990 the Texas supreme court 1990-1997 and Texas state attorney general 1999-2002.  He was elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate in 2002; subsequently appointed to the remainder of the term left vacant by the resignation of William Philip Gramm and reelected in 2008, and again in 2014 for the term ending January 3, 2021.  He is the Republican Conference vice-chair (2007-2009); chair, National Republican Senatorial Committee (2009-2012) and currently the Republican party whip since 2013.  Senator Cornyn believes that the first duty of government is to protect and defend individual liberty and on his own website declares he is “2nd most conservative Senator.”
