About John Kasich

John Kasich is the current Governor of Ohio – and a candidate for the Republican nomination for president in 2016.  Many believe he will ultimately prevail at a locked convention in Cleveland this summer.  Governor Kasich continues to be a contender in 2016 despite limited showing in the polls.  The Governor was elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2014.  Presidential Kasich served nine terms as a member of the United States House of Representatives – representing Ohio’s 12th congressional district from 1983 to 2001. His tenure in the House included 18 years on the House Armed Services Committee and six years as chairman of the House Budget Committee – and he was a key figure in passage of both welfare reform and the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, in fact Kasich rose to national prominence after becoming “the chief architect of a deal that balanced the federal budget for the first time in 28 years.”
