About Dr. David Klassen
Dr. David Klassen, MD, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has been the organization’s Chief Medical Officer since 2014. In this role, Dr. Klassen offers an experienced clinical perspective to our policymaking and patient safety efforts. He reports to the Chief Executive Officer and assists him in developing, planning and implementing UNOS’ strategic direction. Dr. Klassen was the Medical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Programs at the University of Maryland Hospital, where he was as a faculty member since 1986. Dr. Klassen served a term on the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors and as a member of the OPTN/UNOS Kidney Transplantation and Membership and Professional Standards committees. Dr. Klassen earned his medical degree from the Ohio State University in Columbus and completed his internal medicine and nephrology training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
