In Washington, when even those in the know are scratching their heads, you can be certain everyone else is not so sure either.   But Senator Tom Cotton joined The Cats Roundtable to breakdown the climate in DC, what he thinks are the urgent priorities for the country, and why he believes “extremely unpopular” Biden policies would hurt Democrats at the ballot boxes.

Hot off his appearance at CPAC last week, Cotton railed the growing immigration crisis on the border, which many lawmakers blame on Biden’s reversal of Trump-era immigration policies.

“We have record numbers of unaccompanied migrant children showing up at our border since February, right after a deep-freezing winter storm,” Cotton mourned.  “Imagine what it’s going to be 60 days from now if the Biden administration doesn’t reverse course, doesn’t reimpose some of the Trump-era immigration policies.”

Exacerbated by the pandemic, Cotton called the border question “an urgent priority” that Democrats would “pay the price for” at the ballot box if they remain silent.

“What we need is an immigration system that has our border system under control,” Cotton told The Cats Roundtable, “that makes sure people leave when their visas are expired; they turn off the magnet at the workplace for illegal immigrants, and then we can address some of the other parts of our immigration problems.”

Cotton’s concern for reckless immigration reform is informed by his concern for the livelihoods of the American people in the middle of a global pandemic, and the Arkansas Senator has co-authored a bill with other GOP Senators that seeks to raise the minimum wage while ensuring “American workers” are the ones who get the raise while holding accountable companies which evaded immigration laws and the illegal workers they employed.

“We want to make sure we have the systems in place to ensure that all those pay raises go to Americans,” Cotton said.

Senator Cotton also urged listeners to get the vaccine, touting the recent FDA emergency approval of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine alongside the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines already approved. He told The Cats Roundtable the quicker people get vaccinated, the quicker the return, even predicting a return in “just weeks” to normalcy if Americans continue to get the vaccine.

“What’s vital is people get vaccinated when they’re able to get vaccinated.” Cotton said.

But back in Washington, Cotton sounded out against Biden and Democrats’ lack of interest in working with Republicans, noting Biden had resorted to executive actions because many of the main platforms of the Democratic party are unpopular generally.

He also confided to The Cats Roundtable he was concerned recent airstrikes carried out by the US in Syria against an Iranian proxy militia were insufficient, in a time when Iran was probing “America’s will-power” in the region.

“If he returns from the negotiating table without making that perfectly clear,” Cotton warned, adding “the results could be even more disastrous than 2015,” referring to the Obama-era Iran Nuclear Deal.
