“How can the Democrat party ask to lead our country, when it spends so much time tearing down our country?” Trump’s words echoed off the south lawn this past Thursday as he formally accepted the GOP nomination for the 2020 election.
The speakers on the final night of the Republican National Convention included President Trump’s attorney, and former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who used his speech to condemn the increase in crimes caused by the “pro-criminal, anti-police policies” of radical Democrats in American cities.
Giuliani told The Cats Roundtable that his speech was personal. “It gave me a chance to really talk about something that’s been troubling me for a long time,” he explained.
The increase in violence hits close to home for America’s Mayor. This year, in cities like New York City, murders went up over 50% in July, with community leaders and police activists saying they are being left to fend for themselves by Mayor de Blasio.
“It seems like the mayor is doing everything he can to contribute to it,” Giuliani said. “From letting people out of jail, to restricting the police from making arrests.”
This past week, the RNC backed Giuliani’s case. After a shooting at a protest left two dead earlier this week in Wisconsin, the GOP’s argument that Democrats have failed to take a stand against the violence may resonate deeper with Americans. Giuliani accused the Democrats’ failure to respond to the unrest as “assent.”
President Trump echoed Giuliani this past Thursday, when he called his opponent Joe Biden a “trojan-horse” for un-American ideals that would dismantle the American way of life. The President cast himself as the only one that could fix a country facing a series of unprecedented crises, as well as distilling himself as the same outsider that came to office in 2016.
And in a time of pessimism, Giuliani believes it’s Trump’s message for the better tomorrow that holds weight to Americans as they approach November. He said the difference is that only one party has made their position clear for where they want to take the U.S.
“We are a great country that has made mistakes, and is willing to try to correct those mistakes,” Giuliani said, adding that Democrats had failed to present a picture that talked about “the greatness of America.” With the formalities out of the way, the November election is now winner take all, and Giuliani told The Cats Roundtable he only sees one way this match can go.
