Madeleine Pickens is a businesswoman, animal welfare activist, and philanthropistmedelein pickens. Madeleine grew up in Europe and was captivated by the history of “The West”. She immigrated to the United States in the 1970’s and continues to be enthralled by our country’s history and our Native American culture.  After the Bureau of Land Management announced in 2008 that the United States government was considering euthanasia and/or selling more than 30,000 wild mustangs to slaughterhouses overseas, Madeleine announced plans to develop a sanctuary for the horses.  Her efforts to rescue and preserve the wild mustang continue today. After purchasing her Foundation’s sanctuary in Northmustang horsesEastern Nevada, she saved over (600) Mustangs from slaughter. Her 501(c)(3) organization, Saving America’s Mustangs (SAM), has raised the necessary funding to develop and open Mustang Monument Eco-Resort and Preserve, an arm of SAM, that will maintain the sustainability of the wild horse preserve for years to come.
