– Speaks about the recent U.S. District Court decision in Arizona that upheld a Phoenix ordinance that banned the sale of puppy mill dogs from any store.

– Due to the above decision, “all dogs sold in pet shops in Phoenix must originate from an animal shelter or non-profit humane society or a non-profit rescue group…they can not come from puppy mills”.

– The Phoenix law will help “stop the terrible abuse of dogs raised in a puppy mill setting”.

Steven Hansen, DVM, a 30-year veteran of animal health and welfare, is the Chief Executive Officer of the Arizona Humane Society. Dr. Hansen was the driving force behind the City of Phoenix’s ordinance which mandates all pets sold in pet stores must come from shelters. This action hopes to stem the thousands of cats and dogs in kill shelters.
